Dalton State College and Walker County Schools partnership strengthens educator pipeline

Dalton, GA (01/07/2026) — Dalton State College and Walker County Schools have strengthened their commitment to building Georgia's educator pipeline through a partnership aimed at preparing future teachers and supporting workforce development across northwest Georgia.

As part of this agreement, Dalton State education majors from Walker County will be guaranteed student teaching placements within the Walker County School System, creating a clear path from classroom learning to hands-on experience.

"This partnership reinforces our commitment to preparing students for successful careers from day one. By aligning Dalton State's educator preparation programs with the needs of our local school systems, we're ensuring that future teachers gain the skills, experience and professional support required to enter the classroom with confidence," said John Fuchko, president of Dalton State College. "This is about building a strong foundation for their careers and strengthening the quality of education across our region."

In addition, all qualified graduates of Dalton State's School of Education from Walker County will be offered an interview with the district-creating a direct and supportive bridge from college to career.

"This collaboration reflects our shared dedication to workforce development and to preparing the next generation of educators through practical experience, while offering a 'teacher interview guarantee' with no employment obligation," Damon Raines, superintendent of Walker County Schools, said.

The agreement includes a commitment by Walker County Schools to offer competitive salaries and benefits to new hires. These incentives, combined with the streamlined hiring process, aim to enhance workforce stability and educational continuity across the district.

This marks the fifth partnership Dalton State has established with area school systems this year. Previous agreements were signed with Murray County Schools, Catoosa County Public Schools, Whitfield County Schools, and Dade County Schools earlier this year, all part of a broader strategy to strengthen the region's educator pipeline.
